The Ranga Reddy district administration has initiated steps to clear encroachments abutting water bodies around the city.

On Wednesday, over 200 huts and 10 permanent illegal structures that were constructed in the full tank level of Ramanthapur Pedda Cheruvu on Uppal-Amberpet main road were cleared.

As a result, the lake which was turning into a garbage dump yard, will now be protected as authorities are planning to erect fencing around the water body.

Houses allotted

All the hut dwellers residing at Ramanthapur were allotted nearly 400 pucca houses at Rajiv Gruhakalpa project in Ghatkesar last year. Yet, most residents rented out those houses to other people and continued to stay in these huts, said Uppal tahsildar E. Lachi Reddy.

Taking advantage of the situation, few persons constructed 10 permanent structures abutting the lake. As notices were issued to the residents to vacate their houses well in advance, there was not much resistance from them, he said.

A detailed report was submitted to the Lake Protection Committee and Ranga Reddy district Collector V. Seshadri.
