A Division Bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice T. Rajani said the Telangana government shall take care to ensure that the various benefits announced by the State’s Iftar party are available to poor and needy persons from the Muslim community. The bench refused to stay the ‘Iftar’ party proposed on June 18.
The judge was dealing with case filed by Lubna Sarwat. She contended that the Government had been spending the funds of the Minority Welfare department since 2015 in the name of Iftar dinners and this year ₹60 crore was allocated for this. J. Rama Chandra Rao, Additional Advocate General of Telangana, said government money was not being spent for the proposed Iftar party at LB stadium.
He said that the government was hosting Iftar in 380 mosques in GHMC limits and also 420 mosques in rural and urban areas of the State on June 18. The other benefits meant for the Ramzaan festival would be given only after due verification and extended to orphans, the destitute, widows and poor Muslims.
The bench directed Government to file a report within three weeks giving details of how many poor Muslims participated in the dinner across the State.
Stay on demolition
Justice S.V. Bhatt of Hyderabad High Court on Friday directed the authorities to maintain status-quo regarding the demolition of houses at S.R.Nagar, Warangal.
The Judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by K. Raju and five others. The Petitioner told the Court that 40 houses were demolished during mid-night of May 7th without issuing any Notices.
The local revenue authorities had promised last year that only houses of such slum-dwellers will be demolished who come forward to take two bedroom houses. The Judge ordered status-quo and directed the authorities to file the counter affidavit.
