Moved by the plight of those working in the unorganised sector, Warangal West MLA D. Vinay Bhaskar is conducting a two-day mega health camp for the needy.

Inaugurating the camp at Sai Baba temple here on Wednesday, he said a ‘Karmika Mahotsavam’ had been launched to identify problems of people working in various sectors. “Since May 1, which is Labour Day, I have been meeting daily wage workers, tailors, electricians, painters, construction labour, hotel workers from nearly 37 sectors,” he said.

Mr. Bhaskar explained that during his interactions with the unorganised workers, he had learnt that many do not know of welfare and insurance schemes launched by the State government.

“The workers do not have any security. When an accident takes place at a construction site, they protest, demanding compensation. However, the State government’s 110 scheme has medical cover for workers in case of an accident. Be it an electrician, carpenter or any other worker, if they are enrolled under this scheme, the medical expenses would be covered,” the MLA explained.

He proposes to create awareness among workers of unorganised sector and ensure that they all enroll under insurance and medical schemes available for a meagre premium, while some schemes are free of cost.

On Thursday, the medical camp would conclude and Home Minister N. Narasimha Reddy and Deputy CM Kadiyam Srihari are expected to participate.
