HCA representative on BCCI to be hot topic of discussion

Cricket association’s annual general meeting today

The issue of who should represent Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could well be the most debated topic when the Annual General Meeting is held here on Sunday.

“One group seems to be promoting former HCA president G. Vivekanand since he apparently meets the eligibility norms. The agenda also includes appointment of ombudsman, ethics officer, standing committee and cricket Committee, apart from adoption of Rules of Procedure for conducting elections,” says a former HCA secretary.

“The other key subject could be naming of Cricket Advisory Committee comprising three international cricketers. Given the ‘conflict of interest’ rearing its head, it is highly unlikely that any of the big names from Hyderabad will be willing to be on this panel as their other ‘interests’ will be affected,” he pointed out.

‘What’s the hurry?’

For his part, former HCA Secretary K. John Manoj questions the powers of the in-charge president of HCA, Anil Kumar to chair the meeting itself as suggested. “We feel it should be former BCCI president N. Shivlal Yadav, given his experience and knowledge,” he says, adding, “And why the hurry to name a representative for the BCCI at Sunday’s meeting when it was made clear that all State Associations should complete the election process by September 21. Once the HCA elections are over, a duly elected body will name the representative.”

Mr. John Manoj points out that the complete statement of accounts for the year 2016-17, which are scheduled to be taken up and passed at the AGM, were strangely not given to them.

Initiating poll process

“It is pretty simple. We want the election process to HCA to be initiated at tomorrow’s meeting by announcing the schedule. This will help in subsequently naming the selection panels so that the players do not suffer ahead of the coming season,” he said.
