HC seeks EC’s response on money power in polls

: A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sen Gupta and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar on Monday directed the Election Commission of India to respond to the issue of money power influencing the outcome of elections in the country.

The bench was treating a letter written by the resident editor of an English daily as writ petition. The petitioner complained that the EC was unable to control the flow of money which is influencing the outcome of elections. The bench felt that the issue of uncontrolled spending for elections needs immediate attention. The case was adjourned by three weeks.

Sujana case

Justice A.Rajasekhar Reddy of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday reserved orders in the company petition filed seeking winding up of Sujana Universal Industries limited which is allegedly connected with a Union Minister.

Mauritius Commercial Bank filed a company petition to wind up Sujana Universal Industries on the ground that the company failed to repay Rs 106 crore it owed to the bank. During the initial stages of the case, the Sujana Universal Industries offered to repay the amounts starting from January 2015 to January 2017.
