Justice P. Naveen Rao of Hyderabad High Court on Friday passed an order awarding 30 days of imprisonment to an IAS officer K. Shiv Kumar Naidu, who earlier worked as Mahabubnagar Joint Collector, in a contempt of court case.

The order was stayed for three weeks facilitating the officer to file an appeal. Along with the imprisonment, the judge directed the Telangana government to pay ₹50,000 compensation to the petitioner Buchaiah and imposed ₹2,000 fine on him.

The petitioner from Mahabubnagar town was a retired government employee who started construction of a marriage hall in his land. Following the complaint, the then joint collector Mr. Naidu issued orders to stop the construction work.

HC stays order

The HC passed orders staying the officer’s direction as the petitioner moved the HC challenging his orders. Despite the HC direction, the JC ordered the police inspector concerned to send Buchaiah to prison for nearly three months.

The retired employee filed a contempt of court petition seeking action against the officer. After hearing the petition, the judge passed the order awarding imprisonment to the officer.
