The main Opposition party scored ‘self goal’, says Harish Rao

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti ridiculed the Congress for its attempts to gain political mileage through non-issues and said the main opposition party had scored a ‘self goal’ through its Chalo Assembly. Minister T. Harish Rao said the govt. was clear on its stand to continue the session as long as the Opposition wanted so that all the key issues were discussed in the House. The Congress, however, tried to obstruct the proceedings by displaying placards and entering the Well of the House. In the process, the main Opposition party members set aside the basic decency and decorum of the House and raised slogans when Leader of the House K. Chandrasekhar Rao was replying to members’ queries.

“The Congress finds itself alone in the House as members of all other parties participated in the debates during the Question Hour,” the TRS leader said.

The manner in which the Congress members tried to obstruct the proceedings reflected their frustration and impatience for being out of power and they were firm on getting suspended from the House for the sake of publicity. Several appeals made by Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy urging members to resume their seats so that she could give the mike to Leader of the Opposition K. Jana Reddy went in vain.

“The Congress leaders appear to be unwilling to allow even their leader to speak,” the Minister said.

Mr. Harish Rao criticised the Congress members for their efforts to disrupt the proceedings on the first day of the session itself and said the ruling party would act tough if they continued the disruptions in the coming days. “Congress members cannot hold the House to ransom. It is our duty to protect the rights of the other members in raising their important issues,” he said.

Jealousy

He wondered why the Congress members were resorting to disrupt the proceedings when farmers were happy because of the availability of water and increased acreage under schemes like Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya. “They are probably jealous of the Government for announcing ₹ 8,000 input assistance for each acre in two seasons and the steps initiated by this Government for making the pending projects as running projects,” he said.
