Charges employer’s family with forcing her into prostitution and beating her up. He added that the police had registered a case of cheating, extortion and Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA) and launched investigation.

The city police rescued a 28-year-old woman, who was purportedly subjected to harassment and torture by an Arab family in Abu Dhabi. The woman hails from Salala in Barkas and is a native of Guntur district.

She worked as a housemaid in the city and came in contact with two brokers -- Fatima and Imtiyaz -- of Barkas who promised her a job of a maid and collected Rs. 30,000 and some gold ornaments for arranging a visa, the police said. She left for Abu Dhabi last month along with her elder sister, who paid Rs. 80,000 to the broker.

Denied food

The woman told the police that her employer made her do all sorts of works and tortured her physically and mentally. “We were made to wash the toilets with bare hands. The family members abused us, beat us up and also denied us food,” the woman complained.

She also charged that the family members forced her into prostitution. “We went to Abu Dhabi with a dream to earn some money and give a bright future to our children. Nevertheless, it was a nightmare and we will never re-visit the place again,” the woman cried.

It was a week ago that the elder sister of the woman returned to the city after developing some health problems and informed the family about her younger sister’s condition. The family members approached the police, who called in the agents and enquired about it.

Case registered

“Due to the efforts of the police, the agents made arrangements for the return of the woman to the city,” DCP (South) V Satyanarayana said.

He added that the police had registered a case of cheating, extortion and Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA) and launched investigation. The police said that they need to verify the allegations before arresting the accused persons.
