A 33-year-old woman committed suicide allegedly due to harassment by her in-laws over dowry, Alwal police said.

P. Pratyusha, a resident of New Reddy Colony, got married to Shashikant Rao in 2013. They have a daughter, police said.

Her father Kishan Rao told the police that at the time of marriage, over 1 kg gold and ₹20 lakh cash were given as dowry. Later, another ₹50 lakh was given to them when they started harassing her. Alwal inspector P. Yadagiri said that Pratyusha hanged herself and was rushed to a hospital, where she succumbed. Kishan Rao was informed by her in-laws from there.

“This is a dowry death case. So far, no arrests have been made,” police said. (Roshni - Suicide prevention helpline: +914066202000.)
