Issues pertaining to grid protection between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States came up for discussion at the meeting convened by the Southern Regional Load Despatch Centre (SRLDC) here on Thursday.
As per the sources, AP power authorities had earlier raised objection with SRLDC about the specific feeders to bear the impact of any sudden fall in generation.
An unexpected fall in generation due to technical snags in any power station would automatically trip certain feeders to save the grid from collapsing. A transmission protocol determines the order of feeders to take the impact.
Feeders to be identified
In the united Andhra Pradesh, Kadapa was the first region to be affected by any such emergency, where demand up to 700 MW would be isolated from the grid. However, after the bifurcation, Andhra Pradesh has raised an objection to it, and sought the SRLDC’s intervention to distribute the load shedding between the two States.
Accordingly, the Telangana State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC) would be required to identify feeders to be tripped in the first instance of fall in generation. Locations in Mahabubnagar are being explored for technical feasibility, sources informed.
Also discussed were mechanisms to trip feeders in case of excess drawal from grid by any State.
SRLDC monitors power supply systems in five southern States and a Union Territory including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Pondicherry.
Representatives from SRLDC and SLDCs of both the States attended the meeting.
