Graveyards being developed

A total of 24 grave yards in the city are being developed with an expenditure of ₹24.12 crore, of which the works pertaining to seven graveyards have already been completed, Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan said during a review meeting with GHMC officials here on Tuesday.

The 24 graveyards were taken up in the first phase, for providing amenities including washing area, compound walls, prayer rooms, waiting rooms, and locker rooms for storing the remains.

Mr. Ram Mohan directed immediate development of graveyards at Purana Pul, Balkampet and Punjagutta for which designs were ready.

Corporate entities and NGOs would be made partners in the development of graveyards, he said.

GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy, chief engineer Ziauddin and central zone commissioner Raghu Prasad attended the meeting, which discussed development of roads, and model markets too, a statement of the GHMC said.
