Several reforms introduced to ensure better healthcare for people, says Minister

Medical and Health Minister Eatala Rajender on Tuesday said several reforms were being introduced in his department to ensure better healthcare for people in the State. Supply of modern medical equipment to hospitals, KCR Kits, improvement of facilities for pregnant women and steps to ensure mother and child health were some among them, he said.

Addressing a gathering after opening the 30-bed hospital built at a cost of ₹5 crore at Bichkunda mandal on Tuesday, he said contaminated and impure drinking water was the main reason for many diseases, and hence, pure drinking water was being supplied to all the villages under Mission Bhagiratha. The newly-inaugurated hospital would cater to the medical needs of Bichkunda and Jukkal mandals, he said.

Mr. Rajender said in the healthcare field, the State was competing with Kerala and Tamil Nadu to improve public health. Minister for Roads and Buildings V. Prashanth Reddy said of ₹610 crore sanctioned to the district, ₹226 crore was being spent in the backward Jukkal constituency alone. Efforts were on to provide dividers and central lighting at Jukkal and Bichkunda towns, he said.

Presiding over a meeting on the occasion, MLA Hanmanth Shinde appealed to Mr. Rajender to initiate steps to improve facilities at primary health centres in his constituency. He said there was an urgent need for a new building for the PHC at Pitlam, and a compound wall as well as a mortuary at Bichkunda PHC. He also called upon the Minister to appoint sufficient medical staff for Jukkal and other hospitals.

MLC D. Rajeswar, ZP Chairperson D. Shobha, ZP Chairperson, Nizamabad, D. Vittal Rao, Joint Collector P. Yadi Reddy and Medical and Health Officer Chandrasekhar were present. Later, the Ministers inaugurated 33/11 kv sub-station at Manglur in Nizam Sagar mandal.
