Transgender candidate in Goshamahal constituency of Telangana goes missing

Chandramukhi Muvvala kicked off her campaign in Goshamahal constituency on Monday morning. She is contesting as a candidate of Bahujan Left Front.

Chandramukhi Muvvala, the first transgender woman to contest in Telangana Assembly elections, went missing on Tuesday morning, a complaint lodged at the Banjara Hills Police Station in Hyderabad by her fellow transgender activist stated.

Mx. Muvalla kicked off her campaign in Goshamahal constituency on Monday morning. She is contesting as a candidate of Bahujan Left Front.

After the campaign ended on November 26 evening, Mx. Chandramukhi returned to her residence on Road no.4, Banjara Hills, and went to sleep early, her friends testified.

Mx. Chandramukhi woke up at 5.45 a.m. after her friend, another transgender person, Sweety, woke her up. However, Mx. Chandramukhi went back to sleep, Mx. Sweety reported to the police.

As per police investigation Mx. Chandramukhi’s phone received a call from one Rajesh. At 8.17 a.m. the phone was found switched off.

And at 8.30 a.m. her friends found her home locked.

“As a member of Telangana Hijra Intersex Transgender Samiti, Mx. Chandramukhi had strongly protested against atrocities on members of transgender and hijra communities. She has been an outspoken voice at many rallies and public events upholding the self-respect of transgender people,” a statement issued by the Samiti read.

Speaking to The Hindu , Rachana Mudraboina, who reported the matter at Banjara Hills police station, said, “Her mother is worried. We want the police to take immediate action and find her as soon as possible”.
