In a bizarre incident, two goats were taken into custody by the police for grazing on saplings planted by a voluntary organisation in Huzurabad town.

They were released after the Huzurabad municipal authorities imposed a fine of ₹1,000 on their owner.

Talking to The Hindu on Wednesday, Huzurabad Inspector Madhavi said the representatives of Save The Trees, the voluntary organisation, Anil and Vikranth, approached the police after the goats repeatedly grazed on the saplings planted by them. They alleged that they had planted over 900 saplings in the town, of which over 250 saplings were eaten away by the goats.

On Tuesday, they caught hold of the goats while they were busy grazing on the saplings and handed them over to the police. Their owner, Dornakonda Rajaiah from Kummariwada locality, visited the police station where he was asked to let his goats graze on the outskirts of the town or to feed the animals at his house, apart from imposing fine on him.
