Giving back to their village

‘Mana Vuru’ initiative aims at enlisting help of well-placed natives for village development

Collector M. Hanumantha Rao, who has played an instrumental role in launching several unique programmes in the district, has come up with a new initiative called Mana Vuru (our village).

The idea behind the initiative is to address issues in villages with the help of natives who have migrated to other places and are financially sound. Mana Vuru is almost on the lines of the Janma Bhoomi programme launched a few decades ago in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh by the then Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

As part of the ongoing 30-day village development programme, officials were apprised of several issues such as lack of supply of dustbins and cleaning material for roads and drains. Responding to this, the Collector proposed the idea of Mana Vuru at the Zilla Parishad general body meeting held two days ago.

So far, about 1.5 crore has been pledged by various persons. A special meeting with regard to Mana Vuru will be held in every village on September 30 to create awareness about the programme.

Mr Hanumantha Rao has announced ₹25,000 for Cherlagudem village which he adopted during his recent visit. Patancheru MLA G. Mahipal Reddy informed that about ₹1 crore contribution has been coming to 50 villages in the constituency limits. MLV V. Bhoopal Reddy announced contribution of ₹5 lakh for the development of villages.

Zilla Parishad chairperson P. Manjusree and Zilla Grandahakaya Samastha president Narahari Reddy also announced similar contributions.

“The concept of Mana Vuru is giving back to one’s native village, enlisting the help of generous people who are in a good position, financially. One can select a village, be it his/her birth place or adopted village, and make some donation to that grama panchayat to address gaps in development. Donors will be felicitated by the village officials,” Mr Rao told The Hindu.
