The GHMC has warned builders and developers in the twin cities against dumping construction and demolition waste anywhere other than the the locations designated for the purpose.
Starting from June 5, severe action and penalties await those still dumping C&D waste in nalas, lakes and open spaces, Mayor B. Rammohan warned them at a meeting on Friday with real estate firms, Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India, Telangana Real Estate Developers Association, and representatives of other construction companies.
The Mayor has asked them to register the vehicles they used to transport C&D waste with GHMC before June 5, and dump it only at the designated locations, to be picked up by the chosen agency to handle and process the waste.
It has been observed that most of the construction debris is thrown in water bodies causing pollution and encroachments.
To curb this menace a new enforcement cell with 400 persons as staff has been set up under the Vishwaheet Kampati, Director, Vigilance and Enforcement. The cell will coordinate with all the 30 circles to have the debris transported in a systematic manner, to the transfer stations provided one in each circle.
Already, 20 vehicles are on the job of carrying the C&D waste found dumped in lakes, nalas and open spaces to the sites of the processing plants.
Plants to process the C&D waste are being set up in Jeedimetla and Fathullahguda in the prescribed process, he said.
Mr. Vishwajeet Kampati, Chief City Planner Devender Reddy, Additional Commissioner Ravi Kiran, and senior officials various wings attended the meeting.
