The BJP president Amit Shah has put the stamp of approval for his party’s alliance with the Telugu Desam Party in the elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation but deferred a decision on a tie-up between the two parties in Telangana.
Sources said Mr. Shah counselled against an immediate truck with TDP in Telangana because there were no elections around. The issue could be taken up when the State went for polls.
The BJP president attended a meeting of the core committee of Telangana unit of the party where the alliances were discussed. The party leaders explained to him how Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao inducted into various government committees people with ultra-left background. Mr. Rao’s appeasement policy towards Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen also came up for discussion. Sources added that Mr. Shah asked the leaders to take steps to strengthen the party organisationally by focussing on membership. The party must take up political struggles to expose the government. He regretted that the 22 per cent vote share in the elections was not enough for the party to win more seats because it lacked organisational network.
