With the Model Code of Conduct having been enforced for the coming elections, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been engaged in the exercise of removing banners, flex boards, wall writings and all other public display associated with political activity in the city.
In the last fortnight, teams from the civic body pulled down more than 1,750 such publicity material from both public and private places across 15 Assembly constituencies that are part of Hyderabad district. Officials said the exercise would be taken up more vigorously and teams drawn from the sanitation and other GHMC wings would be increased.
The instances attended to so far included removing 110 wall writings from public places and another 33 from private properties apart from pulling down 880 posters from different places across the city. Banners of different political parties, most of them set up before the election schedule was announced, were also attended to. “Our teams removed 477 banners till Thursday across the city but a majority of these were put up before the code of conduct came into force,” said an official.
In Hyderabad district, so far only two minor code violations have been reported, an official said. One related to the bursting of crackers at the BJP meeting at Nizam College grounds and another related to a band playing music during the TDP padayatra at Musheerabad.
