The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is hopeful that several initiatives taken for improvement of amenities in the city in 2014 will bear fruit for citizens in 2015.
The GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer, Somesh Kumar, said that among others, the focus areas for the civic body will be on improving road conditions and slum development. Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, the initiatives listed out by him include the decision to develop 280 km of road development within three months with a minimum of 10 km road development taken up in each of the circle.
30 more food scheme centresThe civic body will also construct toilets and take up maintenance in 100 government schools and in aided schools for girl students. The Rs.5 food scheme launched in 2014 has been a major success with 20 centres and 30 more would be added. Night shelters have already been provided at some government hospitals for attendants of patients to stay and similar facilities would be created at more hospitals, he said.
Under model housing scheme, construction of 396 units with 520 sft at IDH Colony would be completed by March 2015 offering beneficiaries 2 bedrooms, kitchen and toilets.
Towards energy efficiency, the GHMC has set up LED fittings on two stretches this year on pilot basis and now it would be expanded to 20 more places.
More toilets soonThe civic body’s proposal for the coming year include providing 1,000 modern toilets in the city, installing security cameras in GHMC limits, introducing Re.1 breakfast scheme, construction of 50 FoBs and also ushering in Net Banking facility for payment of taxes.
