The Standing Committee of the GHMC on Thursday cleared two major road widening proposals to provide relief to people from traffic congestion on existing roads.
One proposal is to widen the existing road between Ali Cafe at Amberpet and Nalla Cheruvu lake of Uppal, to a width of 150 feet. The road runs along the Musi via Patel Nagar STP, Nagole Metro Station, till Nalla Cheruvu of Uppal.
Once widened, the five-kilometre road is expected to ease traffic on the busy thoroughfare between Amberpet and Uppal via Ramanthapur, which is set for major overhaul in view of the elevated corridor being planned on the stretch as part of the SRDP project.
Traffic tedium is already a regular issue all the way between Amberpet and Boduppal, which is set to worsen once the flyover works begin. Widening of the alternative road will help ease traffic jams on the stretch, officials hope.
The existing road is only 30 feet wide, and increasing the width by five times might require acquisition of 148 properties, the proposal mentioned.
Another stretch that has received stamp of approval for widening is between Gachibowli and BHEL junction via University of Hyderabad. As per the proposal, the road will be widened to 215 feet between Gachibowli to GHMC zonal office at Serilingampally, and to 150 feet from there to BHEL. In Master Plan, the road was proposed to be widened up to 100 feet, which has been revised later. The latest proposal will require acquisition of 316 properties.
Five more proposals
Five more road widening proposals have been accepted during the Standing Committee meeting, for 60 feet road between Toli Chowki flyover and Golconda Mothi Darwaza; for 100 metre road between Banjara Darwaza junction up to Telangana Social Welfare Boys Junior College; for 150 feet road between Kukatpally Housing Board flyover and Bharatnagar Railway Goods Shed; and for two 100 feet road stretches between Chandanagar Railway Station up to Venkateshwara Nagar South layout and up to Vyshali Nagar North respectively.
Other approvals included payment of ₹10 lakh ex gratia to family of labourers who lost their lives during construction of the double bedroom housing project at Rampally village in Keesara mandal, construction of storm water drains between Vanasthalipuram crossroads and Mansoorabad Pedda Cheruvu, and from Kamineni Hospital Junction to Alakapuri Junction with an expenditure of ₹10.5 crore and ₹3 crore respectively.
Proposals to complete the construction of Begumpet fish market, and laying of sewerage pipelines at Hastinapuram too have been accepted by the committee.
