After Swachh Hyderabad, it is the time for ‘Swachh Haleem’ in the month of Ramzan for the GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation). The city’s civic body has asked all the haleem makers to maintain proper hygiene while preparing the dish and also when throwing away the waste. On Tuesday, B. Janardhan Reddy, Commissioner, GHMC interacted with the managements of hotels and eateries and asked them not to erect haleem battis on the rooftops or in places which can cause inconvenience to the pedestrians and motorists. Since more than 20,000 outlets will be on the job of preparing or serving haleem during the Ramzan season, the Commissioner directed the medical and health officials to coordinate with hotel managements and give proper training to the workers on following hygiene procedures. The GHMC has issued directions to the haleem makers which include procuring meat from notified slaughterhouses, making proper parking arrangements for customers, keeping fire safety equipment ready and disposing of the garbage in the right manner by handing it over to the collector.
During the preparation of haleem, the GHMC has asked the eateries to follow food safety norms.
All vessels and utensils made of copper should be coated with nickel to prevent food poisoning, was one of the instructions along with making it mandatory to demarcate area for cooking, mixing and grinding. The GHMC has also asked the managements to make sure that the cooks and workers are healthy and the water used is potable and chlorinated.
