GHMC ACP attacked

A GHMC employee was attacked, allegedly, by a TRS co-option member on Monday during a public grievance programme in Alwal. The alleged attack was thought to have taken place following removal of a statue’s pedestal by the municipal administration.

Assistant City Planner V. Madhavi lodged a complaint with the Alwal police on Monday, alleging that co-option member G. Jyothi Goud had attacked her at Deputy Commissioner’s office around 1 p.m. When contacted, Ms. Madhavi said she sustained severe injuries on the face.

“I was suddenly attacked by the co-option member and nobody intervened to stop her. I walked out of the room, injured and humiliated,” she said.

The provocation to the alleged attack was suspected to be GHMC’s actions to oppose erection of statues of G. Akhil Goud, deceased son of Ms. Goud. The GHMC had opposed the unsanctioned move and got the statues removed twice. Last week, however, a statue came up in Old Alwal.

An order was issued to have the statue and pedestal removed. The statue was removed on Friday and the pedestal was cleared by the GHMC on Saturday.

The Alwal police said it registered a case under Sections 353 and 332 of the IPC (causing hurt and preventing a public servant from doing a job).

When GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan was asked if the party was contemplating action against the co-option member for her alleged behaviour, he replied no action was being taken in the present time.
