Describing Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika (TVV) as ‘hardcore’ frontal organisation of CPI (Maoist), Hyderabad Commissioner of Police Anjani Kumar warned them not to mislead innocent youth.
“In the name of New Democratic Revolutions, members of TVV and other Maoist frontal organisations are preaching violence to the misguided youngsters, which won’t be accepted,” he said.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Kumar said the members of TVV, including its president Bandari Maddileti, were in touch with Maoists of Jagdalpur cadre in Bastar in Chhattisgarh and cases were booked against them across the State.
Referring to the recent searches conducted by the police at the residence of Maddileti and Osmania University PG College, Secunderabad, assistant professor Jagan, the top brass said that they have seized several incriminating materials, including ‘Sandesham’, pamphlets published by the CPI (Maoist) on the 50th anniversary.
On Thursday, Mr. Jagan was arrested by the Jogulamba-Gadwal district police for his alleged links with the CPI (Maoist), while Mr. Maddileti is currently at large. The duo along with a few other members of TVV was booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and Section 120-B (Conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code. Later, the police registered sedition charges against them.
Mr. Kumar said that the case registered against Maddileti at Nallakunta police station was transferred to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and an officer of the rank of ACP will probe it. The case was registered on Tuesday.
Stating that Communist rule in other countries, including the Soviet Union had failed drastically, Mr. Kumar said that youngsters should draw inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda, not revolutionaries like Joseph Stalin, Vladimir Lenin or Mao Zedong.
“History is witness that Communist practice has failed in the world and it has no place in largest democracy, We will not allow any kind of illegal activities against the State or the country, ” he said.
When asked if the Maoists’ network was spreading rapidly in the urban areas and the movement was no more limited to bordering districts, the Commissioner said that there is ‘no presence’ of any Maoist cadre in Telangana.
