Ganesh idol immersion on Tuesday

The spectacular final procession and immersion of Ganesh idols in Hyderabad will be held on Tuesday.

There was a bit of uncertainty about the day of the final immersion as Monday and Tuesday were mentioned as the Nimajjan day, citing different reasons.

Final procession

Hyderabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy said on Thursday that the final procession from Balapur of Old City to Tank Bund would be held on Tuesday.

However, police officers estimate that at least 10 to 20% of the over 10,000 Ganesh idols installed in the city and outskirts would be immersed in Hussainsagar on Monday. “This is because some devotees have sentiment not to immerse Ganesh idol on Tuesday and are likely to do it a day in advance,” they said.

Though immersion of idols begins from the third day of Ganesh Chaturthi, the final immersion is held on the twelfth day coinciding with Anantachaturdashi. Processions and immersion of idols picks up from fifth day.

At Tank Bund and Necklace road, huge congregation of devotees and general public turn up from ninth day onwards in vehicles carrying idols. “It is already a festive atmosphere at Tank Bund and Necklace road. Many feel it is comfortable and convenient to immerse idols before the final procession day as it is not too crowded during the preceding days,” say Central zone police officials.

Though Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi is persuading pandal organisers and devotees to join the final procession on Tuesday, considerable number of idols are likely to be immersed on Monday. For the police, it would be an advantage as the number of idols turning up at immersion points would come down.
