April 30, 2013 04:17 pm | Updated 04:17 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Ananthagiri, the source of the River Musi near Vikarabad, has received a fillip as a tourist destination, with the government releasing an initial budget for development of an Ecotourism Centre there.

A government order was issued on Monday releasing nearly Rs.3.24 crore to the Chairman and Managing Director of the State Tourism Development Corporation for development of an ecotourism centre at Ananthagiri.

The amount was released from the Central Financial Assistance granted earlier by the Union government under its ‘Destination Development’ programme. Over Rs.4 crore was released for Ananthagiri under the programme, of which the latest administrative sanction was for 80 per cent of the amount.

Rest of the 20 per cent would be released after the receipt of a utilisation certificate for the released amount, and a report of physical progress achieved on implementation of the project components within 12 months of the closure of the financial year, the order said.
