Labour Minister Nayini Narasimha Reddy has said the Telangana government was making efforts to develop cordial relations between workers and managements, rather than assume hard measures against the latter as it could lead to flight of investments from the State.

Addressing a meeting on the occasion of May Day here on Monday, Mr.Narasimha Reddy stressed on the need for friendly relations between workers and managements, for economic growth of the state.

300 new industries

“We are not taking hard measures, as it could lead to companies moving away from the state. Companies can survive only when workers put in their best efforts. We will intervene to ensure fair share for workers,” he said.

With hard measures, the State will have to face a situation like that of West Bengal from where industries have moved away due to strong unionisation.

Telangana has got more than 300 new industries through its industry-friendly policy of TS-iPASS.

Listing various welfare measures by the Telangana government, he said, the government will soon finalise the increase in the minimum wages through the Minimum Wages Board. Principal Secretary, Labour, Rajat Kumar said the Telangana government has simplified the procedures for setting up industries, and earned awards in the Ease of Doing Business.

An ‘Odisha Migrant Labour Help Desk’ was launched by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through video conferencing on this occasion, subsequent to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed two days ago.

The MoU was signed among the Labour, ESI departments, Government of Odisha, and Tata Trust, Mumbai, towards implementation of ‘Special State Action Plan for the Safety and Welfare of Inter-state Migrant Workmen’.

The help desk will cater to Odisha migrant labourers with the helpline number 155368 by providing assistance in their native language. Awards were given away for Best Management and best workers. Public sector units such as Singareni Collieries, TSGENCO and TSTRANSCO, and TSRTC were among the former apart from VST Industries, Sagar Cements, Hetero Drugs, HSIL Limited, L&T, and Usha International. MP Boora Narsaiah Goud and MLC Ramulu Naik too were present.
