A ‘friendly’ fist fight between two teenagers in Old City resulted in the death of one of them. The fight was filmed with mobile phones by a few of their friends. The incident took place on May 3, but came to light on May 10 (Sunday) following a complaint made by the family members to the police.
On the fateful day the victim Nabeel Ahmed, an Intermediate student of a private college along with eight of his friends gathered near a school in Panjesha. “It is not clear what prompted them to start a wrestling, but Nabeel and his friend, a juvenile, exchanged blows during the fight. After few seconds Nabeel collapased on the ground,” DCP (South) V. Satyanarayana said.
Nabeel was immediately rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him dead. “His friends told the family members that Nabeel had slipped while playing and died,” the official said.
The family members later conducted the funeral and buried the body at a graveyard in Barkas. However, the victim’s father Ghulam Dastagir who grew suspicious after watching a clip of the fight and approached the police on Thursday.
Basing on the complaint, the police registered a case and detained a few persons. The police have written to the higher ups seeking permission to exhume the body for conducting a post-mortem examination.
