The Balapur police apprehended four Myanmarese refugees for allegedly fraudulently obtaining Aadhaar and voter ID cards.
Police identified the accused and arrested the foursome. They arrested were Mohammed Elias (31), Yaseen Aira Begum (25), Noor Rashid (26) and Murshid Alam (22), all of whom are Rohingyas. They arrived in the city from Arkan district in Myanmar.
Ahsan Zia Ansari, another Myanmarese and an accused, is absconding. Police also arrested Mohammed bin Omar, a resident of Barkas, for allegedly furnishing a false declaration in the form of an electricity bill for the documents to be procured.
Police said Mr. Elias, Ms. Begum, Mr. Rashid and Mr. Ansari got acquainted with Mr. Omar after which they planned to obtain the documents.
Refugee card, Aadhaar and voter ID cards and ₹1 lakh was seized from the accused.
They have been booked for cheating, forgery and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
