Four held in Muthoot dacoity bid

The Cyberabad police on Friday arrested four persons, thus solving the case pertaining to an attempted dacoity at the office of Muthoot Finance in Mailardevpally that took place on July 4.

Two knives, an iron rod, four mobile phones and Aadhaar cards were recovered from those who were arrested. The sports utility vehicle (SUV) used in the offence was seized.

The names of the arrested are Arshad Fulumiddin Khan (28), a hotel worker in West Bengal, Shafiuddin Navaboddin Sayyad alias Shafi (30), an IT professional involved in installing software for closed circuit cameras, Santosh Dasharath Veerkar (35), the driver who drove the stolen SUV and Mohammed Dastagir (55) of Chandrayangutta here who provided shelter to the accused.

A press release said that in all, seven people were involved in the dacoity attempt. On July 4, two unknown people came to the finance company’s office and asked to mortgage a gold ring when the gang entered with deadly weapons. But even as they tried to commit the dacoity, the hue and cry raised by the staff, the ringing of a siren and people gathering made them flee from the scene.

The accused left the stolen vehicle near a gated community at Upperrpally some distance away and dispersed separately. Following a complaint by the Muthoot Finance Manager Abdul Lateef, police registered a case and the investigation was taken up by the Special Operations Team of Cyberabad police.

The investigation led to the arrest of Shafi and Dastagir here in Hyderabad, while Arshad Fulumiddin Khan and Santosh Dasarath were picked up from Osmanabad in Maharashtra. Efforts were on to apprehend the other accused, the release said.
