Four arrested for cloning bank cards

They used skimmers to steal data

A hotel waiter was part of a four-member gang arrested by the Cyberabad police on Wednesday for stealing bank card details of customers using skimmers.

The gang members would clone the card, after which money was siphoned off from the accounts through ATM transactions.

The accused are Sumit Jhingran from Varanasi, Kevin Jerry D’Souza, of Mumbai, Gaurav Varma of Shajapur in Madhya Pradesh and hotel waiter Sachin Kumar from Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh. Another waiter, Rafiq Faruk Khan of Mumbai is currently absconding, said Cyber Crimes inspector Katakam Srinivas,.

They were arrested following a complaint from Surendra Inkollu of KPHB Colony, who stated that ₹60,000 and ₹40,000 was withdrawn from his account. The prime accused, Sumit Jhingran used to clone cards using the customers’ data stolen with skimmers and magnetic strip reader machines from different places in the country, Mr Srinivas said. The gang duped gullible card holders to the tune of ₹ 50 lakh.
