Former Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh, Nadendla Bhaskar Rao on Saturday joined the BJP in presence of its national president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Mr Rao was welcomed on stage at the party’s membership drive which Mr Shah addressed.

Mr Rao served as Chief Minister in 1984 for a month after he dislodged TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao leading to a huge political outcry.

Late Rama Rao was subsequently reinstated as CM after month-long protests and condemnation by political parties against his ouster.

He then joined the Congress and served as a parliamentarian representing Khammam.

He is the father of Nadendla Manohar, former speaker of the State Legislative Assembly of united Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier in the day, Mr Shah visited the house of Soni Naik, a member of ST Lambada community.

He also handed a membership card to Kethavath Laxmi.
