The first session of the newly constituted second Legislative Assembly of Telangana will begin on January 17.

The session had been convened for swearing in of the new MLAs elected to the posts after last month’s elections. Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan issued the notification convening the Assembly session on Monday.

The members would be sworn in under the chairmanship of MIM MLA Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, a six-time MLA, who had been nominated as the pro-term speaker. The members would elect the Speaker the next day. The meeting of Business Advisory Committee would be held on the same day to finalise agenda for the first session.

As per tentative schedule, the Governor would address the joint session of the legislature on January 19 and the House will pass motion of thanks to the Governor’s address on January 20. The Governor had notified convening of Legislative Council on January 19 enabling the members to attend his traditional address.
