First Radisson Blu hotel opens in city

Carlson Rezidor, a worldwide hotel chain, on Friday announced the opening of its first Radisson Blu property in Banjara Hills here, taking the number of the group’s operational hotels in India to 54. It has 142 rooms, 13 suites and a swimming pool on the 2 floor.

Ronnie Lobo, vice-president (Operations) of the group in South Asia, said they were striving to achieve the goal of 50 growth in the global hotel portfolio, including the target of 100 properties in India alone. Currently, the group has 1,319 hotels in 81 countries with a total head count of 80,000-plus. Carlson Rezidor’s revenue generated to the tune of US $ 7 billion.

Nishan Silva, general manager of the Radisson Blue Plaza Hotel at Banjara Hills, said the property was designed to offer the best experience for business travellers as well as those looking for leisure. The Holy Basil restaurant served Chinese, Thail and Japanese cuisines, while the other restaurant, Chill, offered Indian and Continental food.

The 10,000-square yard spread of land on which the property was built is owned by B.S. Sahney, Chairman, DAAJ Hotels, who converted his residence, allowing for construction of the luxury hotel. Mr Silva said the venture involved an investment of Rs. 270 crore, of which 60 per cent was from the promoters and rest from banks.
