A first-of-its-kind amphitheatre has come up at Gandhi Park in Adilabad town, which would showcase the tribal culture. The open air facility would offer Adivasis a platform to exhibit their culture, and with it being located in a public place, it would allow others to witness the same.
The construction of ₹35 lakh amphitheatre has been complete, except for painting of the walls and other spaces. “Tribal painters from the erstwhile united Adilabad district will do that job,” said Adilabad Municipal Engineer P. Madhukar as he talked of the different aspects of the amphitheatre.
“The seating capacity is 300 and the stage where performances would take place has changing rooms too,” Municipal Assistant Executive Engineer P. Arun Kumar revealed. “Basically, the tribals can come here and present dance performances specific to their culture,” he added.
“The amphitheatre would also be leased out for private programmes and functions like birthday parties, farewell parties and others once the work is completed,” Mr. Madhukar pointed out. “This will be a major attraction for recreational facilities in the town,” he said.
The tribal painters who were trained by the Tribal Welfare Department last year have been asked to submit creative proposals for working on different blank spaces on the wall. The paintings would be taken up after going through the proposals.
