A day after the devastating fire accident that claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl at Sainagar in L.B. Nagar, relief poured in for the affected families from various quarters on Sunday.

Some residents from nearby colonies distributed food and garments, besides food packets to hutments.

The Andhra Pradesh Balala Hakkula Sangham distributed milk, biscuits and bread packets to the children.

Relief fund

A relief fund of Rs.8,000 was also handed over to each of the affected families, said Ranga Reddy District Collector V. Sheshadri on Sunday.

Temporary shelters

He said arrangements were also made for providing temporary shelters to the victims.

Meanwhile, police who recorded the statements of eye-witnesses, said power supply drawn from the overhead lines was the main cause for the incident.

Flames erupted from dangling wires soon after power supply was restored around 3 p.m., police said.

Chief Secretary Pankaj Dwivedi, YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, Congress MP Sarve Satyanarayana, CPI State secretary K. Narayana and other politicians visited the site and consoled the families.

Mr. Jagan criticised the Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy for failing to console the families and announced that the party would give Rs.5,000 to each family.
