Fire in KBR park

February 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - HYDERABAD:

In less than 10 days, fire broke out for the second time on the pathway of the KBR national park raising concerns over it leading to a possible forest fire.

The fire broke out on Thursday night on the walker’s path near TRS Bhavan in Banjara Hills and was eventually put off by Fire Department officials. The mishap occurred as the littered dry leaves outside the park caught fire. A similar incident took place on February 8 in the walking area outside the park, near Journalists Colony.

“Leaves are littered all around the walkway of the park and as the HMDA authorities are in control of the park, they should ensure that they are properly lifted at regular intervals. The two incidents took place as heaps of the dry leaves are being kept near the boundary walls,” said Mohan, Divisional Forest Officer of the park. According to the officer, the fire would have easily spread to the forest since only grilled wall or ornamental walls separate the park from the walkway.
