A three-floor building was gutted at Chatta Bazar on Monday due to fire in a footwear godown. The police said footwear worth more than ₹ 1 crore was lost.

According to Mir Chowk Police, the fire began at around 9.30 a.m., possibly due to short circuit, in the second floor of the building that houses footwear businesses Modern Trading Company and Happy Traders. The fire soon spread to rest of the floors.

“Since the approach to the building is very narrow, fire-tenders could not attack the fire from close quarters. It took six fire engines and 50 water tankers to douse the fire,” said Detective Inspector G. Narayana Reddy adding that after several hours of fire-fighting efforts they put off the flames.
