Fight in Telangana only between TRS and BJP: Laxman

‘Congress is a spent force and the alliance opportunistic’

November 20, 2018 11:14 pm | Updated 11:14 pm IST - HYDERABAD

The ensuing electoral battle in Telangana will be between Bharatiya Janata Party and Telangana Rashtra Samiti as the BJP proved to be the real alternative to the ruling TRS by fighting for public causes, said State BJP president K. Laxman.

The Congress, although the next biggest party, became a spent force and failed to function as main opposition party and many of its MLAs had crossed over to the TRS. The alliance formed by the TDP, Congress, TJS and others was opportunistic and it had no credibility, said Dr. Laxman at a ‘Meet the Press’ programme organised by the Telangana State Union of Working Journalists here on Tuesday.

Telangana people would not be fooled by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his crocodile tears. They would not let him control Telangana from Amaravati, he quipped.

Dr. Laxman said people voted for the TRS as the party that spearheaded the Telangana movement and gave it an opportunity, impressed by its manifesto to turn the State into Bangaru Telangana. Let alone fulfilling the promises of one job for every family, installing a Dalit as Chief Minister, three acres of land to dalits and free KG to PG education, people realised that, after four years of TRS in power, it had brought in family rule. They understood that the sole objective of Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao was to install his son K.T. Rama Rao as next Chief Minister.

‘Visionary manifesto’

“So people are looking towards BJP and its visionary manifesto. It is the party that gave maximum seats, 33 out of 119 seats, to the BCs, and 19 to Scheduled Castes as 90% of people in Telangana were SCs, STs, BCs and minorities,” he said, predicting the December 7 election as a historic election to fulfil the aspirations of Telangana people.

“You have seen all political parties. Now give one opportunity to the BJP and end the selfish rule of one family. People are keenly observing and looking for a change,” he said.

Dismissing the talk about clandestine understanding between the BJP and the TRS, Dr. Laxman said the seriousness of the BJP was evident in its fielding strong candidates in all 118 Assembly constituencies. The clamour for BJP ticket was an indication that the party had grown in strength in Telangana and across the country while the graph of the TRS was falling.

It was time to save Hyderabad from the clutches of the TRS and the Majlis, he said and promised separate manifestos for the State, Hyderabad and every constituency.
