Faulty hip implants: panel to determine compensation

Drugs Control Administration, Government of Telangana, constituted a five-member State-level committee to determine the quantum of compensation in respect of faulty ASR hip implants manufactured by M/s DePuy International, UK (now Johnson & Johnson Pvt Limited) and implanted in the patients in India.

A release from the Joint Director of the Drugs Control Administration said the State-level panel included M.L.V.P. Surendranath Sai, Joint Director, Licensing and Controlling Authority, Drugs Control Administration (member-Secretary), Dr J. Satyanarayana, Professor of Orthopaedics and Civil Surgeon, Gandhi Medical College/Hospitals, Dr. V. Prashanth, Professor and Head, Department of Orthopaedics, Osmania Medical College/Hospital, Dr Ramamurthy, Department of Radiology and Imageology, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences and A Visala, Deputy Drugs Controller, Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation.

The committee will determine the quantum of compensation as admissible under appropriate law and medical management for the affected patients, who can approach the committee by writing to the Joint Director, Licensing and Controlling Authority, Drugs Control Administration or email at dcatelangana@gmail.com.
