Facility for bio-medical research at Genome Valley

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave the nod for setting up a National Resource Facility for Bio-medical Research (NARF) at Genome Valley here, at an estimated project cost of Rs. 338.58 crore and one that is scheduled to be commissioned by the financial year 2018-19.

Touted as a first-of-its-kind facility for quality laboratory animals for basic and applied bio-medical research in the country, it is to be developed for breeding and housing animals including primates, canines and other beings like transgenic and knock-out rodents needed to testing of various research and development products.

The lab will create, develop and provide access to a range of laboratory animals and related technological resources for advancement of biomedical research in the country, a press release said.
