Showcasing opportunities in the defence sector for technology start-ups will be one of the focus areas of the second edition of Defence & Aerosupply India event that opens in Hyderabad next month.
This approach stems from the emphasis of Telangana government, with whom Kenes Exhibitions is organising the three-day programme from November 30, to hand-hold start-ups and help Hyderabad reach pole position in the country in emerging technologies.
Home already to small and medium enterprises that proved their prowess by supplying to globally leading defence equipment manufacturers, the State would like this edition of the conference and exhibition to lay down a roadmap for the start-ups.
The whole idea, according to IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, is to provide a forum for tech start-ups to participate and interact.
Of particular interest to such enterprises will be the technology workshops figuring in the event and to be addressed by experts in the field. Solar balloons for renewable energy, solar UAVs as low orbit satellites, construction of turbine wings using aerospace technologies, Canard airplane with hybrid engine for pilot training, green/hybrid propulsion technologies, future cyber warfare will be discussed.
“These are areas concerning emerging technologies where there are no clear market leaders,” the Secretary said, adding the event provides an ospportunity for start-ups interested in dabbling with technology. At another level, the discussions covering a gamut of other issues are expected to provide inputs to the State government for its Defence and Aerospace Policy that is to be unveiled soon.
Pointing to the interesting shift from conventional nuts and bolts kind of manufacturing by the suppliers to one focussed on deploying electronics, he highlighted how a few SMEs in Hyderabad had supplied components for high precision equipment like the Scorpene submarine and the country’s Mars Orbiter Mission.
The conference will deliberate on defence procurement procedures; the Make In India policy; Offset regulations that influence government procurement; whether joint ventures are possible between companies owned by Ministry of Defence and the private sector; on policy for supporting human capital and skill development; and opportunities in Telangana. There will be panel discussion on trends in aerospace platforms (Manned, UAVs, rotorcrafts, airships, mini and microlites).
