After their moment of glory on the world’s highest peak late last month and a week of meeting distinguished citizenry in the national capital, M. Poorna and S. Anand Kumar, students of the Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Residential Institutions Society, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.

The Prime Minister congratulated Poorna, the youngest female to conquer Mt. Everest, Anand and their trainer Sekhar Babu. Mr. Modi also presented a certificate of excellence to the team members.

“We spent almost 20 minutes with the Prime Minister. It was a good meeting. After he had congratulated us, we congratulated him for taking over as Prime Minister of the country. He enquired with the students on their training schedule and experiences during the mission. He also enquired about their family background and the educational qualifications of the children. The students were very happy and excited with the meeting,” said Mr. Sekhar Babu, who hails from the city.

A special felicitation programme has been arranged for the team, which will arrive in the city on Sunday.
