A whopping 98.4 per cent of engineering graduates in the city are open to taking up jobs in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Many of them believe SMEs are good places to work at and help in faster growth of their careers.
A survey by leading HR and recruitment services firm TMI Group revealed that 46 per cent respondents thought little of large companies due to unhealthy competition, lack of job security and long working hours.
The survey revealed that jobseekers value a challenging opportunity the most when deciding whether to accept a job or not. While 23 per cent consider challenging responsibilities as key to taking up a job, 22 per cent consider the brand name when doing so. The proximity to their homes is third on the list with 16 per cent respondents.
TMI Group executive chairman T. Muralidharan said the findings come as a relief, given the number of engineering graduates who get added to the pool of jobseekers every year and the dwindling recruitment in large companies. “This is the right time for SMEs to highlight their advantages and the benefits they provide to their employees,” he said.
