Enforcement squads to check illegal structures

September 05, 2011 11:52 am | Updated 11:52 am IST - HYDERABAD:

GHMC Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu has put City Planner Bhagyawathi as the over all in-charge to monitor and provide necessary demolition squads to circle offices to tackle illegal constructions at the initial stage itself.

She will have two squads under her control – one headed by Jalender Reddy, Assistant City Planner and with jurisdiction over East, North and West Zones. Second squad will be headed by Mohd. Iqbal, Town Planning Supervisor for South and Central Zones. Ten constables from the vigilance wing will also be deployed with the teams. Two DCM vans with 10 labourers each will also be part of the demolition squads with necessary equipment.

The squads will be attending to demolitions and sealing of properties whenever complaints are received from the Commissioner, Additional Commissioner (Planning) and Chief City Planner in coordination with the respective zonal/circle officers or act on their own if necessary.

Mr. Krishna Babu, in his latest directive, explained that the decision was taken since the current enforcement drive against unauthorised constructions was “not satisfactory”. Powers delegated to the DCs and ACPs concerned of the respective circles to arrest the illegal constructions too were not of much help. The newly formed squad will cover one circle a day and inspect properties whenever complaints are received in the head office and a detailed report is submitted.
