Minister for Information and Public Relations D.K. Aruna has called for an attitudinal change in the mindset of parents towards the girl child. She regretted that discrimination against the girl child still persisted.

Ms. Aruna flagged off a walk organised by North American Telugu Association for ‘save a girl child’ at Kasu Brahmananda Reddy park here on Sunday morning. Association president Sanjeeva Reddy and vice-president Jayachandra Reddy were present on the occasion.

Condemning the prevalence of female infanticide, the Minister said the discrimination should be rooted out. She also recalled steps taken by the government for protection of the girl child, including the Bangaru Talli scheme.
