Eleven women housed at the Government State Home in Yousufguda escaped early on Wednesday. Five of them are from State Home for Children and the remaining from Rescue Home. The inmates removed the grills and mesh of the window in the kitchen room on the first floor of the complex before escaping. The incident escape came to light at around 10 a.m. when the staff found them missing. “A part of the boundary wall had been dismantled following Metro Rail works on the Ameerpet stretch. The women might have escaped without much difficulty after scaling down the window,” a Women and Child Welfare Department official said.
Officials said the inmates had participated in the Telangana Day celebrations at Parade Grounds and returned. S.R. Nagar Police registered a case on a complaint lodged by the Rescue Home Superintendent.
“We suspect some outsiders might have facilitated their escape,” Punjagutta ACP K. Venkateshwarlu said.
Sources said a day prior to their escape there was some tension after the staff confiscated a mobile phone from one of the inmates.
