Electoral rolls revision reaches top gear

Over 20,000 claims and objections filed as of September 14, say officials

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has accelerated the process of second Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls in all the 15 constituencies in Hyderabad district, as the deadline for receiving claims and objections, September 25, is fast approaching.

Over 20,000 claims and objections have been filed as of Friday, officials informed.

A special campaign is under way upon instructions by Commissioner M. Dana Kishore at all the polling station-designated locations. The BLOs would be available between 10.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. with four separate forms—Form 6 for inclusion in the rolls, Form 7 for objections/deletion, Form 8 for correction of mistakes and Form 8A for transposition of voters from one polling station to the other within the same constituency.

Death certificates issued by the corporation are being scrutinised to see how many deceased persons’ names are continuing in the rolls. A total of 1.22 lakh deaths were registered in the city between April 2014 and July 2018, of which 28,000 had Hyderabad address. The number is expected to go up. Door-to-door survey would be taken up to delete the names of the deceased. A total of 75,646 duplicate voters have been identified among whom 15,791 were found to be accurate. The remaining are under verification. Those who have permanently shifted are numbered at 11,974 and they would be issued notices. It has been observed that the percentage of enrolment among young voters is very less, and in order to increase the same, special counters would be set up at various degree colleges.

Services of the Revenue Department officials too are being roped in, and seven Deputy Collectors, 15 Tehsildars, 100 VROs would participate in the preparation of voters’ lists. Awareness campaigns are being conducted about the registration and voting process.
