The administration is gearing up to declare the district as open defecation free (ODF) by June 2, on the anniversary day of State formation.

After being elevated to the position of District Collector from Joint Collector Vasam Venkateswarlu has been focusing on some important issues that are critical for the government. Out of the 2.13 lakh toilets that need to be constructed in the district, almost 1.8 lakh have been completed. For the remaining the administration has been focusing on arranging meetings at constituency level to discuss the issue and address the problems related to execution.

Recently Mr. Venkateswarlu held a constituency-level meeting at Naryanakhed attended by local MLA M. Bhupal Reddy and others. Stating that the constituency was lagging behind in reaching the target of constructing toilets, he has promised to take the responsibility of releasing bills to the panchayats after completing the work.

According to District Pachayat Officer Venkateswarlu about 36,000 toilets were yet to be completed in the district out of which about 10,000 were not yet started while pits were dug for 6,000 and rings were laid for 8,000, with others remaining at different stages of execution. To give a big push to the programme, the administration has decided to hold constituency-level meeting at Zaheerabad and Andol in the first week of next month. Narayanakhed is yet to construct about 18,000 toilets, and Zaheerabad yet to be ground 9,000 toilets and Andol follows them with about 7,000 units to be launched.
