Don’t put undue stress on schoolchildren, says HC

A division bench of Hyderabad High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice J. Umadevi on Wednesday made it clear that courts have to be concerned with the pressure children undergo in the name of studies.

The bench asked the Hyderabad Public School management to put a girl Advetya in first standard as sought by her parents. Advetya was initially admitted to second class. The school claimed that the girl is bright enough to study second class and if required will be given special attention, even as her parents contended that she is not able to cope with the stress in second class.

Her parents approached the court complaining that the girl is not able to study properly and she has to be sent to first class. A single judge dismissed the case finding that the application was for second class. The bench was, however, not in agreement with the order of the single judge. The bench said that the stress the child undergoes is paramount. The girl has to be put in first standard only.
