Senior Civil Judge and the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) secretary Vinod Kumar and District Child Welfare Committee Chairman M. L. Prasad visited the Sishu Gruha here on Friday to monitor the well-being of the children sheltered in the State-run home. They inspected the facilities and enquired about the well-being of all the 18 children of the Sishu Gruha situated on the premises of Balala Sadanam.
They interacted with the two-and-a-half-year-old girl of Mahabubabad, who had been staying in the Sishu Gruha for the past four days, after being rescued by the police from an issueless couple in Yellandu town.
The officials concerned of the Women, Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens (WCD&SC) Department reportedly apprised them of the steps initiated to protect the best interests of the girl in adherence to the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) rules. The officials are understood to have told them that they were actively considering DNA testing method to determine the biological mother of the girl in view of the tussle between Uma, who claimed to be the biological mother of the girl and Swaroopa, who allegedly illegally adopted the girl, with both staking claim over the latter.
Talking to newsmen Mr. Prasad said that they found all the children including the girl comfortably sheltered in the Sishu Gruha.
The safety and future of the children are of paramount concern for the Child Welfare Committee, he said, adding that efforts were on to uphold the best interests of the rescued children through legal adoption process as per the norms stipulated by the CARA.
